Lack of lifeguards in the swimming industry: "Save Swimming"

Last year, Netwerk Lokaal Sportbeleid (Local Sports Policy Network), in collaboration with its Swimming Pools Committee, launched the open letter 'Save Swimming'. Corona was a bitter pill to swallow, as it was for many other sectors. On top of that, there is an almost structural shortage of lifeguards, combined with an above-average impact of the energy crisis, which means that many swimming pool managers and operators are struggling to keep their heads above water. To address this challenging situation, the 'Save Swimming' master plan was developed. This plan recognizes that a multifaceted approach is needed to tackle these complex problems. In this session, the Local Sports Policy Network takes an in-depth look at the current shortage of lifeguards, the measures already taken, and possible future steps they want to take. Redfed will also provide an overview of the modified training program for Senior Lifeguards, which is an important step in improving the quality and availability of qualified lifeguards, essential for the safety of swimming pool users. This session thus provides a platform for discussion and collaboration to explore how we can take joint steps to address the challenges currently facing the sector.
