High energy prices, new legislation and regulations, budget cuts, and changing market demand are presenting swimming pool operators with major challenges. High energy costs are putting increasing pressure on operations, while legislation and regulations are placing ever greater demands on safety, hygiene, and sustainability. Until recently, energy, maintenance, and management accounted for around 30% of the operating costs of an average swimming pool, but now, partly due to high energy costs, this figure has risen to over 60%. Swimming pools will have to reduce costs and increase revenue in the short term.
